Wendy joins us in lockdown and remains devoted to her job.
Our latest recruit is nominations administrator Wendy Spencer who arrives just in time to help collate 2020 applications from disadvantaged children to go on one of our holidays.
Luckily, Wendy was able to meet charity manager Nicky and administrator Karen before she took up her part-time role but had an unusual start to her new job.
She joins all charity staff, trustees and volunteers in working from home during the Covid 19 outbreak and communicates via Facetime, WhatsApp or telephone. Leicester Children’s Holidays is definitely open at this difficult time.
Her job involves meeting parents and carers to discuss the applications from the disadvantaged children under their care. It is a role which calls for tact and diplomacy and one which Wendy enjoys.
Wendy said: “I admit I have had an odd start to the job but manager Nicky Kandola and administrator Karen Leitch have made me so welcome. Luckily, I met them at Highcross before we all suddenly had to work from home.”
Wendy also works closely with schools, social care agencies, Barnado’s and food banks who all refer vulnerable children to us.
Around 65 nominations have already been received this year by Wendy and her colleagues and we are indebted to many people, especially head teachers, who have kept in touch with our charity and sent in nominations.
Needless to say, our charity is still welcoming those nominations. The details are on our website: https://leicesterchildrensholidays.co.uk/apply/ and anyone can apply, including parents and carers.
Eighty children were scheduled to travel to the wonderful Hilltop Outdoor Centre in Norfolk this summer over two weeks from August 3 and August 17.
There may not be a firm date set for these 2020 trips but you can all rest assured, we WILL be taking our children on holiday for a fun time.
