Wendy’s role allows her to support Leicester Children’s Holidays in a crucial way as it involves meeting parents and carers of children who have been nominated to go on one of the charity’s holidays. She works closely with schools and other agencies such as social care, Barnardo’s and food banks.
She left school with just one O Level in maths but when she was aged 36, with five children to look after and a part-time job, she embarked on six years of study for an Open University degree. She graduated with a 2:1 BSc honours degree in social policy and her children cheered her loudly at the ceremony!
She has worked in customer services for Severn Trent at Anstey and in an admin role at Leicestershire County Council for the home care team and the youth offending service. She spent time at Loughborough University working as an administrator and was a school admissions registrar for the Loughborough Schools Foundation
Wendy lives in north-west Leicestershire and has five grown-up children and two grandchildren plus two dogs, a beagle and a springer spaniel cross.
She has recently set herself challenges to tackle lots of DIY tasks around the house including wallpapering, painting and putting up shelves. She particularly enjoys gardening, walking with the dogs and spending time with her family.
She enjoys her job and is excited to be part of the Leicester Children’s Holidays family.
